Zinfandel is a red wine grape varietal, dark blue in color, thin skinned, best grown in warm climates, and producing robust wines with flavors of raspberry, blackberry, and pepper. Zinfandel grapes are also used to produce rosé White Zinfandel wines, which gained huge popularity in the US. Zinfandel is genetically equivalent to Italian Primitivo grape varietal from Puglia, and was brought to US by Italian immigrants in 19th century. Zinfandel is mostly grown in California, Italy, and Croatia. Zinfandel pairs very well with any kind of meat, poultry, tomato-based pasta dishes, tuna, and cheese.
