Domaine Brusset Gigondas Tradition Le Grand Montmirail 2022

Domaine Brusset Gigondas Tradition Le Grand Montmirail 2022

$33.99

A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Overripe red fruit aromas with a touch of mineral and vanilla. A full bodied flavor, with good and silky tannins. An elegant and harmonious wine.Pair with red meats and cheeses. The 2020 Gigondas Tradition Le Grand Montmirail has a round, supple, quintessential Gigondas style as well as notes of red and black fruits, Provençal garrigue, sandalwood, and leather. Medium-bodied, soft, and ready to go, it’s going to evolve nicely for 7-8 years, probably longer, although I see no need to delay gratification. The blend is 70% Grenache and 10% each of Cinsault, Mourvèdre, and Syrah, aged 60% in vats and 40% in used demi-muids. As with all the wines here, it was completely destemmed.

Description

ush red from this much-admired village in the southern Rhône, overflowing with black cherries and currants, all refreshed by a breath of liquorice. Stony terraced vineyards on alluvions and molasse facing full south. Yields are low at 30 hl/ha. Grapes are hand-picked and selected following strict ripeness checks. The grapes for this wine are 100% hand picked and vigorously selected for ripeness before the picking begins. Grapes are Grenache 70% Syrah 10% Mourvèdre 10% Cinsault 10% The grapes are crushed and destalked with no yeast added (the fermentation relies entirely on wild yeasts). The fermentations lasts for 15 days and the cap is punched down twice daily to aid the extraction of colour and tannin. The wine is then aged 60% in vats and 40% in 2 – 4 year old demi maids. On this family estate established in 1947, the Brusset family has managed to combine the “savoir faire” of traditional winemaking with the new techniques introduced by each generation. The Domaine Brusset is located in the heart of the southern Côtes-du-Rhône valley vineyards,at Cairanne.
