Trefethen Family Vineyards Chardonnay Estate 2015
Trefethen Chardonnay is the perfect balance of body and acidity makes this an ideal food wine. It will shine with light dishes featuring shellfish, grilled fish, chicken or pasta with spring vegetables. Fresh tarragon as an accent herb works quite well. The nose opens with bursts of orange blossoms and hints of lemon cream pie. The palate is full yet bright, offering a pleasant viscosity and subtle notes of kiwi. The clean finish adds an exclamation point with elegance.
With a warm spring, the vines got off to an early start. The weather turned cool during bloom, impacting fruit set, resulting in fewer grapes per cluster. The size of the crop was further reduced as the dry soils, from the lack of late rains, led to smaller grapes. The weather was warm throughout the summer, keeping the vines running early, right into one of our earliest harvests ever. The resulting wines are fantastic as the smaller grapes and fine weather contributed ideal ripeness with very concentrated flavors.
