Mezcales de Leyenda is a cooperative that represents artisanal mezcal producers from different regions in Mexico. The group was formed by a group of Mexican entrepreneurs, led by New York based chef Danny Mena.
Mezcales De Leyenda Durango Mezcal is certified organic, made from wild Cenzio (Duranguensis) agave grown on rich volcanic soils. The agave is cooked underground in a lava rock lined pit for 3 days using oak. It is then fermented 3 days in a wooden vat using natural yeasts.
The spirit has different aromas combining herbs, peaches, toasted hazelnut and vanilla. On the palate, apples, cherries, anisette and smoke.
