Description

Maker’s Mark, a renowned distillery in Loretto, Kentucky, is celebrated for its unique mashbill incorporating wheat instead of rye, and its distinctive red wax seal adorning each bottle. The brand employs a distinctive barrel rotation technique, moving barrels between upper and lower levels in aging rickhouses, ensuring uniform aging. Standard Maker’s Mark reaches maturity around 6 years.

In August 2023, Maker’s Mark introduced the annual limited release, Maker’s Mark Cellar Aged. This bourbon undergoes an additional 5 to 6 years of aging in the distillery’s proprietary whisky cellar, providing a consistent, cool environment. The inaugural 2023 release comprises 225 barrels, estimated at 40,500-54,000 bottles. Available in the U.S. in September 2023, in London, Munich, and select Global Travel Retail accounts in October 2023, and in Tokyo and Singapore in early 2024.

On the nose, sweetness emanates with caramel syrup and cinnamon sugar, followed by robust barrel char balancing the sweetness. Background notes of red fruit add complexity. The aroma maintains a slight punchiness, potentially influenced by proof and astringency common in high-proof wheated bourbons. A dynamic combination of butterscotch and cornbread unfolds on the palate, accompanied by caramel, brown sugar, and contrasting cinnamon spice. The initial rich intensity is well-balanced before cinnamon spice and astringency gain strength. The enveloping cinnamon spice results in a memorable, intense, and long-lasting finish.
