Description
Crafted by the historic Scienza family in the heart of Bolgheri, “L’Airone” by Podere Guado al Melo is a remarkably fresh, pure expression of 100% Vermentino. The estate operates with a deep respect for biodiversity, treating the vineyard as a balanced ecosystem to cultivate resilient, character-filled fruit. The grapes are sourced from coastal Tuscan hillsides sitting on deep, alluvial soils rich with sand, clay, and river pebbles, where the vines absorb generous sunshine and cooling Mediterranean sea breezes.
The name L’Airone (The Heron) is a nod to the small white cattle egrets that gracefully roam the estate’s vineyards during the cooler seasons. For the 2024 vintage, the hand-harvested grapes were gently pressed and vinified seamlessly in stainless steel tanks without any corrections or additions. To enhance its complexity, texture, and natural persistence, the wine was aged on its fine lees for 4 months with frequent stirring (bâtonnage) before refining further in the bottle.
In the glass, it shows a bright yellow color with straw-like reflections. The highly expressive bouquet opens with vibrant aromas of grapefruit, crisp green apple, and white peach, layered with delicate tropical undertones of mango and wild linden blossoms. On the palate, this medium-bodied white is wonderfully clean, melting, and energetic.
