Description
Crafted by the master of Sardinian viticulture, Ferruccio Deiana, “Donnikalia” is a brilliant expression of 100% estate-grown Vermentino. The grapes are sourced from 11 hectares of low-yielding, sustainably farmed vineyards in the rolling hills of Sibiola and Su Leunaxi near Cagliari. Here, the unique Mediterranean terroir—characterized by calcareous clay, sand, and pebbles, coupled with hot, breezy coastal winds—infuses the grapes with optimal ripeness and an unmistakable sea-salted vibrancy.
Harvested by hand between late August and early September, the grapes undergo gentle destemming and a soft pressing. Fermentation is strictly temperature-controlled at a cool 15°C in stainless steel tanks to capture and preserve the pristine, delicate primary fruit aromas. The wine is then aged entirely in steel and refined in the bottle, ensuring an authentic, un-oaked taste of southern Sardinia.
In the glass, the 2024 vintage shows a bright straw-yellow hue with shimmering green reflections. The bouquet is beautifully focused and elegant, opening with fragrant aromas of white orchard fruits like pear and crisp apple, intertwined with jasmine, citrus blossoms, and subtle tropical notes of mango. On the palate, it balances juicy roundness with a crisp, refreshing tension. Clean and medium-bodied, it glides into a lingering, fruity finish punctuated by a classic, slightly bitter hint of wild almonds and Mediterranean herbs.
