Dr. Frank’s Cabernet Franc is a red wine of medium intensity, an alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon.
Dr. Frank Cabernet Franc
Elevating the senses with green bell peppers and herb-infused black plums, this Cabernet Franc reveals a nuanced interplay of earthiness and cedar. The aromatic profile is a dynamic fusion of juicy and generous notes, where powerful spiced black cherry aromas coexist with elegant dark currants. The plum flavors exhibit a robust presence, supported by polished tannins that contribute to the wine’s overall structure.
The Cabernet Franc vines in this expressive blend were strategically planted in 1974, 1997, and 1999 on 3309 rootstock in the Keuka Estate vineyards. Keuka’s vineyards feature shallow, shale-based soils that impart minerality, acidity, and elegance to the grapes. A notable portion of the blend originates from the Eric Volz Vineyard, located just north across the road from Dr. Konstantin Frank’s plantings on Keuka Lake. Planted in 1990 by Walter Volz, the winery’s inaugural Vineyard Manager, and currently managed by Eric Volz, the vineyard showcases shallow soils with high natural acidity and abundant shale content.
