Balvenie 21yr Portwood is one of the flagships from the distillery and a great example of an older whisky finished in port cask for more complex flavor.
Balvenie 21yr Portwood Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Balvenie Distillery is located in the Speyside region, right next door to the Glenfiddich Distillery, and has been producing excellent malts since 1893. Balvenie is one of the few distilleries that happen to have their own malt floors and grow their own barley on the adjoining lands.
Balvenie 21yr Portwood is a flagship in Balvenie’s small lineup of Port Wood whiskys. It was created by placing a rare 21-year-old Balvenie, matured in oak, into port casks, or pipes, and checked every month for maturity characteristics. On the nose, this whisky presents fruit, raisins, nuts, and smoke, followed by a silky palate with hints of honey, spices, fruit, and wood. The finish is long and nutty, with lingering notes of spice.
