Antico Borgo Campi Taurasini is a handcrafted 100% Aglianico from Campania, Italy with a rich history, expressing unique perfumes and flavors.
Antico Borgo Campi Taurasini 2017 (100% Aglianico)
The Antico Borgo Campi Taurasini 2017, a 100% Aglianico wine known as “The Emperor’s Wine,” hails from the Campania region of Italy, where this ancient grape has thrived for over 2,000 years. Favored by Roman Emperor Augustus for its superior quality and aging potential, it was promoted by his wife Livia throughout southern Italy. Despite being found throughout the region, Taurasi in Campania is considered its spiritual home due to its complexity and aging capacity. Enologist Raffaele Inglese, dedicated to Aglianico wines, crafted this small-batch wine with unique perfumes, flavors, and textures expressing ancient lands and times.
Resting for a year in oak before bottling, it mirrors the age-worthiness of Taurasi Riserva, aging gracefully for a minimum of 10 years. Ideal with hearty meats or wintery soups, this handcrafted wine, produced in Taurasi at 4,000 bottles annually, remains a hidden gem for wine enthusiasts. The vinification involves the meticulous harvesting of perfectly mature Aglianico grapes from Taurasi hills, with a low yield ensuring high-quality and complex potential. Aged in both small French Barrique and large American oak barrels for 12 months, it attains a harmonious taste and velvety texture. Best enjoyed with red roasted meats, aged cheeses, and wild game, served at 18 – 20 degrees Celsius.
