Catena Malbec

Catena Malbec

Catena Malbec is a meticulously crafted bright purple wine with intense plum and pepper notes that showcases the influence of altitude on grape cultivation.

Catena Zapata Malbec undergoes an extensive cold maceration for 5 days at 48ºF (8.8ºC) to extract aromas, followed by fermentation for 10-16 days and a post-fermentation maceration of 19-22 days. Aged 6-8 months in barrels, it exhibits a bright purple color and an intense, nuanced nose with notes of fresh and ripe plum, pepper, violet, and cedar. The wine’s smooth and expansive mouthfeel is complemented by gentle tannins, offering a pleasant and flavorful flow, showcasing a textbook Malbec with a modern twist in sweetness and freshness.

Over two decades, Nicolás and Laura Catena have meticulously explored and developed key microclimates in Mendoza, Argentina, discovering the significant influence of altitude on grape cultivation. Recognizing the distinct profiles shaped by varying altitudes and microclimates, Nicolás employed the art of assemblage, blending different lots of the same varietal to create more complex wines.
